The Republic of Somaliland, today, released 14 prisoners of war who fell into Somaliland hands during armed engagements which the Puntland Federal State of Somalia waged against Somaliland army positions in the Tukaraq area last year.
His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, following up on a promise the President made on 18 May to pardon the prisoners as a gesture of goodwill to the people of Puntland, decreed, Monday, that the prisoners be released unconditionally.

The Presidential spokesman, Mohamoud Warsame Jama, speaking to the press, stated that the President wished, also, to practically set an example that would positively impact not only in Somalia and Somaliland but to the region in general.
Mr. Warsameh said the Presidency hoped that Farmaajo, the Federal President of Somalia Mogadishu, stop stoking fire through his states which, naturally, spread to neighbouring countries such as Somaliland.
The Statement which the Spokesman read out accused Farmaajo of fighting a proxy war with Somaliland through the Federal State of Puntland only with whom the Republic of Somaliland shared borders.
