Ethiopia will hold its first population census in more than a decade, a survey that may have far-reaching consequences for the Horn of Africa nation that’s enacting fast-moving political reform and grappling with balancing representations for its dozens of ethnic groups.
The census’ advisory council will have 20 members, including nine ministers and the speaker of parliament, the state-run Ethiopian News Agency reported Tuesday. It didn’t give a date for the survey. The last census was in 2007, and the constitution stipulates one should take place every 10 years.
