His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, received the Danish Ambassador to Kenya, who is also responsible for Somalia/Somaliland, Mett Knudsen, and Head of DANIDA, Anne Elisabeth Kobaek, at his office in Hargeisa, Wednesday.
Issues ranging from developmental projects to the realization and continuation of the tradition which Somaliland has so successfully set for democratic elections.
The two sides, specifically, exchanged views and input on the European country’s continued support to the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) and the upcoming Somaliland parliamentary elections in 2019.
According to the Somaliland Presidency’s sum up of the meeting at the presidential palace, Ms Knudsen, following up on her recent meeting with the Somaliland Envoy to Kenya, Ambassador Bashe Awil and the discussions they held, reiterated the importance the international community placed on the resumption of Somaliland-Somalia talks on points of difference resting on central, critical issues.
President Bihi, on his part, established that his government’s standpoint on key areas such as the resumption of talks with Somalia did not change. He clarified that never did Somaliland breach any of the areas the two sides reached an agreement but, to the contrary, it was always Mogadishu which repeatedly violated officially signed and sealed points such as common airspace management, respect of each other’s developmental programmes and cessation of all types of hostilities and propaganda against one another.
President Bihi and Ambassador Knudsen, reports indicate, were on the same wavelength on all issues raised.
