President Farmajo and EU’s Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Magherini are jointly chairing Somali Partnership Forum in Brussels which entered its second and final day, Garowe Online reports.
Somali leaders, together with international partners and donors, including UN, EU, AU, IMF and International NGOs are at the conference on political reform, security, economic development, and recovery and humanitarian issues.
“Accelerating private sector investment for economic recovery and resilience needs vision, courage and meaningful partnerships. We should create opportunities for our young people to build a prosperous future,” said Farmajo during his address at SPF.
As the security sector dominated the Brussels summit, Jubbaland president, Ahmed Madobe has accused the Somali Federal government of lack of commitment in the fight against Al-Shabaab and failing to fulfill promises.
“Nothing has come out of all the agreements reached in the latest meetings convened in Mogadishu and Baidoa. We have a problem with the implementation of our promises,” said Ahmed Madobe.
Madobe said during his speech on Monday at Somali Partnership Forum that the latest car bombings near the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu have shown that extremists still pose threat against security in the country.
The situation in Somalia has improved in the past years, but, the security remains fragile and needs a comprehensive approach to defeat Al-Shabaab and drive out the Islamists from the entire country.
Jubbaland president called for AMISOM troop increase to make sure the transitional plan which the AU forces are preparing to hand over the security responsibility of Somalia to the national army ahead of their exit in 2020.
The ongoing Somalia Partnership Forum that is expected to be wrapped up in the coming hours is a follow up to the earlier conferences in London and Mogadishu held in May and December 2017 respectively.
On the security front, the Somali government has updated partners on progress in the implementation of key reforms in the security sector, as the country continues to prepare for AMISOM’s eventual withdrawal.
