Somaliland’s electoral commission has called for the internet to be shutdown during the elections, sources say.
The country which hasn’t been recognized by the international community as of yet will hold it’s sixth one-man one-vote democratic elections overall excluding the votings held for the constitution, and its third presidential election on Monday 13th of this month.
In order to mitigate the risks that come with fake news being shared around social media, as well as to ensure the smooth operation of the voting processes without any hindrances the electoral commission has sent a formal request to internet providers to firewall the internet.
The shutdown will commence on election day and will continue until the 17th of november, after all operations relating to the elections has been concluded.
