Somaliland’s Council of Ministers on Thursday unanimously voted in favour of issuing an emergency travel advisory, warning Somalilanders against travelling to Somalia following a string of killings targeting Somalilanders in Mogadishu.
Hussen Aden Igeh, President Silanyo’s spokesman, spoke to SLNTV after the weekly cabinet meeting, explaining the reasoning behind the decision.
“The Government is strongly warning all Somalilanders to avoid any travel to Somalia due to it’s dangerous security situation. We are also calling on all Somalilanders in Somalia to leave the country immediately for their own safety” Igeh said.
Senior Dahabshiil official Hassan Abdi Awad’s family was attacked by masked gunmen on Tuesday while they were riding in car in Mogadishu, Somalia. One of Awad’s sons was killed instantly during the attack. Two of his family members are currently in a coma, and three others were wounded.Awad, Dahabshiil’s GM for central and southern Somalia.
The recent attack on the Awad family is one of many deadly attacks on Somalilanders in Mogadishu that haven take place within the past several months.
