His Excellency the Minister of Interior for the Republic of Somaliland, Yassen Mohamoud Hirey, and an accompanying delegation of ministers, MPs and other government officers reached Las Anod for a regional assessment tour.
Among the Minister Hirey’s high-calibre 30-member delegation is the Minister of Water Resources, Hussein Abdi Boss, Minister of State for Information, Vice Minister for Posts and Telecommunication, Director General of Culture, Ex-Minister for Water Resources, Bashe Ali Jama, and a number of Parliamentarians from the country’s two-chamber parliament.
Minister Hirey, talking to the press, stated that his delegation would primarily focus on two areas: the finalization of recurring skirmishes among brotherly, pastoralist clans in the area and a follow-up assessment on the critical drought situation in Sool and Haysamo regions.
The longest-running skirmishes between two clans in the area which cost much loss of life and property over the years had been brought, recently, to a successful conclusion.
For the first time in over ten years, the Somaliland army units in the area had a fatal brush with armed militias in the Kalabaydh area last week. Another incident that needs to be investigated and settled as soon as possible.
Three people lost their lives in the clash, it was reported.
