Somaliland delegation in Kuwait drum up huge support for drought victims

A high-powered delegation currently visiting the Gulf state of Kuwait led by His Excellency the Minister for the Presidency of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, has managed to drum up huge support for victims adversely affected by the ill-biding drought presently raging in large swathes of Somaliland.

Minister Abdi reported on his Facebook page, today, that his delegation got together with the highest officers of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society, led by its President, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer.Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, suit and wedding“The two sides discussed the best and most expedient way relief can be rushed to the pastoralists so threatened by the drought,” the Minister reported, adding that the KRCS was galvanized into action – an action that will see much coming from the Kuwaiti for the hard-pressed populations.

The Somaliland side also conferred with the organization that built the ultra-modern Hargeisa orphanage centers on the eastern suburb of the capital – Jami’yatul Rahma, which is also busy in putting together relief supplies in coordination with the other Kuwaiti offices.

Earlier in the morning, the Somaliland delegation had a fruitful discussion with the Chairman of the autonomous Baytul Zakat of Kuwait, Dr Ebrahim Ahmed Abdullah Al-Saleh at the foundation premises.
Image may contain: 6 people, people standingStarting its fully-packed schedule with the High Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah, the delegation from the Republic of Somaliland delved relentlessly into meetings with organizations that have the potential to play a pivotal role in the alleviation of distress born from a devastating drought in Somaliland that may turn into famine if the Gu and Deyr rains are scarce or totally missed.

The de facto Republic of Somaliland is presently struggling to cope with the want and deprivation resulting from the drought with a loss of large stocks of livestock recorded. In some places, pandemics of measles, diarrhea and other types of illnesses are feared to break out.

H.E.
