The Republic of Somaliland cabinet of ministers, today, the most extensive national budget in the country’s 25-year existence showing an increment of 27.5% over that of 2016 which stood at US Dollars 295,280,174.
The cabinet commended Minister Zamzam Abdi Adan and her team at the Ministry of Finance for submitting a budget forecast that met national priorities squarely, assessing and providing for the changing climate and factors affecting the living conditions of citizens.
According to a press statement from the presidency and a roundup of today’s budget deliberation that the Vice Minister of Finance, Ali Mohamed Ahmed, and the minister of information, Osman Abdullahi Sahardid, gave the press right after the conclusion of the meeting, the budget forecast for 2017 is 401% more than that in 2010 when the incumbent government took over the leadership of the country.
The forecast for 2017 is estimated at 2,175,104,355,662 Somaliland Shillings, which is equivalent to US Dollars 362,517,393.

The budget, according to the ministers at the press briefing, places security issues, proper implementation of oil exploitation activities, water catchments, rehabilitation of water facilities and wells and the digging of fresh ones at strategic points all over Somaliland, as well as projects and programs aiming to develop the infrastructure and education and health systems.
The budget provides for a ten percent salary increase for the government workforce and the armed/security forces, bringing the total increment for same since His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Siilaanyo and his Kulmiye party came to power to 200%.
One of the factors that make this budget more striking than previous budgets is the difference in growth it varies from that of 2016 which makes it the largest registered for two consecutive years since the birth of the nation.
