Somaliland Foreign Minister meets with Egyptian counterpart

His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Somaliland, Saad Ali Shirreh, had a meeting with his Egyptian Counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Cairo, as part of his current official visit to Egypt, Egyptian ONTv reported.

The two ministers discussed a number of pertinent issues during their meeting reflecting a visible thaw in the two countries’ relations auguring a new era of cooperation.

Mr. Shoukry, welcoming Dr. Saad, commended the people and government of Somaliland on the resounding success which his country achieved in peace, reconciliation and on national development schemes in a region that is often termed by the international community as ‘volatile’ and ‘vulnerable’.

On his part, Dr. Saad, recounted the historical relations the two countries enjoyed dating back, notably, to the days of Queen Hepsetshut, which predates any of the cares and considerations of later time diplomacies.Somaliland FMDr. Saad asked the Egyptian government, during the meeting with Minister Sameh Shoukry, that Egypt upgrade its diplomatic relations with the Republic of Somaliland, and that it increase its team of teachers to the Horn of Africa nation from 50 to 100.

Dr. Saad also called on his counterpart that his country directly offer at least 50 tertiary places/scholarships to Somaliland beneficiaries yearly.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers was concluded on a high note, sources said.
