Prince dies at 57: Inside the last month of Prince’s life

Officials said Friday it could be weeks until final autopsy results arrive. Here we try to piece together what is known about the month leading up to Prince’s death.

March 18

Prince announces that he will write a memoir. Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Random House, acquired the book. And Prince shared the news himself at a Manhattan club that night, telling the crowd, “The good people at Random House made me an offer I can’t refuse.” Prince revealed that the working title for the book isThe Beautiful Ones. A person he referred to as “my brother Dan” is “helping me with it,” he added, “and he’s a good critic…He’s not a ‘yes’ man at all.”

March 21

Prince plays back-to-back sold out shows in Montreal as part of his Piano and a Microphone tour. Photographers were not permitted to take photos, according to the Montreal Gazette review, but Prince was using a cane. But that didn’t hold him back, according to the review: “Prince may no longer rule the charts like he once did, but he never fails to dazzle in the live setting, overflowing with charisma, creativity and explosive technical proficiency.”

March 25

Prince plays back-to-back sold out shows in Toronto. He performs 55 songs over the two shows and includes tributes to David Bowie, who died in January. April 4

Prince tweets his “Purple Pick of the Week” for Tidal. The song is Sometimes It Snows in April, the closing track off Prince’s eighth album, Parade.

April 7

Prince cancels two shows at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, citing the flu. He says he plans to reschedule the shows.

April 11

Prince tweets his “Purple Pick of the Week” for Tidal. The song is I’m Only Dreamingby Sidibe.

April 12

Prince tweets a photo of a purple Yamaha piano inscribed with Prince’s love symbol and calls it “a newly-arrived purple present from Yamaha.”

April 14

Prince performs in Atlanta. According to E! and Rolling Stone, he apologizes for canceling earlier shows. “I was a little under the weather,” Prince said. “But we’re here now, and I’m going to take this time to thank each and every one of you for coming out and enjoying this time with us.” Prince also told the audience of about 200 fans, “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”

April 15

Prince is transported to an area hospital following an emergency plane landing at Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois. A representative for Prince says the star was still struggling with the flu, but had made it safely home to Minnesota.  Prince also tweets “I am transformed” and posts reviews of his Atlanta show byPaste Magazine and Funktopia.

April 16

Prince hosts a dance party at Paisley Park “2 give thanx 4 the good weather and 4 all of the love and support,” he tweets.

April 17

Prince thanks those who attended tweeting: “Thanx everybody for UR extra time & UR…,” presumably a reference to his famous song, Kiss.

April 20

According to police, Prince is dropped off at Paisley Park by an acquaintance at 8 p.m. CT. This is the last time he is seen alive.

April 21
