H.E the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud “Siilaanyo”, Thursday, during a high-level meeting held at the presidential palace met with top government official, including members of the Council of Ministers, Directors General, the managing directors of government agencies, and commanders of the various armed services.
During the meeting, the President appointed an advisory committee to look into the current country economic woes and inflation presented their findings and recommendations.
On the other hand, the aim of the conference was to discuss the role of the government in raising confidence, trust and promoting use the currency Somaliland and ways in which to prevent depreciation of national currency.
President Siilaanyo speaking during the meeting said, “Every nation has its own flag and symbols to identify with as national identity. Somaliland shilling is our national currency hence one of those national symbols , so the government must act now rather than later to protect the integrity of our currency.
He added, “It’s a shame that we as the citizens of this nation have lost confidence in our own national currency and further saddening to see even top state officials opting to receive their salaries in form of foreign currency instead of our own. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated.
President urged government official’s to strongly highlight the use, worth and reliability of our national currency as national priority.
President Siilaanyo reiterated that it was the duty of every government officials to uphold and implement the provisions of the recommendations of the Presidential Advisory Committee on inflation as a matter of national policy that requires full and complete support.
Therefore, the head of state highlighted the need for Government officials to lead the way in the implementation of policy and also follow up.
His Excellency the Minister for the Presidency, later, read out to the media a nine-point action plan that underscored the state drive to see to it that the Somaliland Shilling reigned supreme in local markets backed by the full gauntlet of all concerned ministries, agencies, the business community, the general public and all security branches in Somaliland
