President Siilaanyo rules out reunion with Somalia calling it a pipe-dream

Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmid Silanyo delivers his annual state of the nation address to a joint session of parliament in Hargeisa on 11th Jan 2016“Neither the government nor citizens of Somaliland shall tolerate orchestrations geared towards destabilizing the country.”

This warning was issued by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Siilaanyo”,  during his annual address to the nation at a joint session of the country’s bicameral parliament in the capital on Monday.

“We are not only ready but prepared as well to sacrifice our blood to defend our flag and borders against any aggression from external forces,” said president Silanyo as he accused the Somalia Federal Government in Mogadishu for never ending attempts to create instability within Somaliland borders.

While reiterating the non-negotiability of his country’s sovereignty the head of state who urged SFG authorities to return to international sanctioned talks thus resolve political disputes between Mogadishu and Hargeisa, did not mince words as he informed that reunion with Somalia was never to be”

In 1991 Somaliland withdrew from its voluntary later turned fateful union of 1960 with Somalia a former Italian Colony which continues to claim jurisdictional authority over the former British protectorate to the North of Mogadishu.

The President also spoke of other momentous issues such as new trails to be blazed for securing and quest of national sovereignty, country’s seemingly untameable inflation. security, the row between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the Somaliland Shilling and foreign exchange, combatting corruption and graft, and so on.

The President’s was widely welcomed by the public, especially as it was followed by a noticeable dip in inflation which warmed public hearts only two days after he declared an all-out war on soaring prices and foreign exchange.
