The First Lady of the Republic of Somaliland, Amina Mohamoud Jirdeh, flanked by His Excellency the Somaliland Minister for Health, Dr. Suleiman Issa “Haglatosie”, laid the foundation stome for an emergency ward to be built for the Hargeisa Group Hospital, Sunday.
The First Lady, who is also the UNFPA ambassador for mother-child health care, distributed incubators, medial kits and beds to the pre-natal ward at the main Hospital, to contribute to the fight against child and mother mortality in Somaliland.
Both the First Lady and the Minister profusely thanked the giant Somaliland business companies of Dahabshiil and Telesom for taking a lion’s share of projected costs for the ward construction.
Telesom pledged US$ 50, 000 on the spot whilst Dahabshiil is expected to top it in due time.
Both companies have, in the past, been generous with financial support on social welfare activities such as issues touching on health care, education, child welfare, infrastructure and the like.
The government of Somaliland also pledged its conbtribution to the about-to-begin Emergency ward as well as to other on-going health-related activities at the Group Hospital and elsewhere.
