The Paris attacks occurred at several sites, including the Bataclan theater, restaurants and outside a soccer stadium.
The Bataclan theater
At least 118 were killed at the theater where an American rock band, Eagles of Death Metal, was performing, France’s deputy mayor said. Explosions and gunfire were reported as security forces moved in on the gunmen who had taken hostages. Authorities reported that at least two gunmen were killed in the operation to secure the theater. The mother of the band’s drummer reported that the band members managed to escape. The theater is less than a mile from the site of the Jan. 7 shooting at the Charlie Hebdo offices.
Restaurants
Around 14 people were slain at Le Carillon and nearby Le Petit Cambodge restaurants in the 10th arrondissement. Additionally, as many as 18 people were killed at a cafe, Le Belle Equipe, when the sidewalk terrace was showered in gunfire.
Stade de France
Two explosions, later confirmed as suicide bombings, were heard outside of the soccer stadium during a friendly match between France and Germany. French President François Hollande, who was one of thousands in attendance, was quickly evacuated. Terrified fans poured onto the field after authorities prevented them from leaving the stadium.
