H.E the president of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Siilaanyo’, on Tuesday, received at the Presidency the EU Special Representative for Somaliland and Somalia Mr. Michele Cervone d’Urso.
The President was accompanied by the newly appointed Foreign Minister, Dr Saad Ali Shire, Minister in charge of Presidential Affairs the Presidency, Hon Mahmoud Abdi Hashi, Minister of Interior, Mr. Ali Mohamed Waran, secretary of President Ali Ahmed Ali and Presidential Spokesperson Hussein Adam Egge, (Hussein Deyr).
Minister Dr. Saad and the United Nations Special Representative of the European Union both reported to the Media what the purpose of the meeting was.
EU Envoy Mr. Michele Cervone d’Urso speaking during the press conference said, “ It’s good to be back here in Somaliland , me and President Silanyo touched upon many issues, the continued EU support in democratization process in the Republic of Somaliland among them the upcoming electoral process in 2017 in which we hope to support the government and the national electoral commission (NEC) to make them happen.
This is a key step in which Somaliland had embarked on democratization process some 20yrs ago and we also discussed the EU/ Somaliland partnership such as development cooperation, Berbera corridor, security cooperation, EUCAP NESTOR among many other issues.
