The president of the federal government Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has fired Mogadishu mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein known as (Mungab), an interior ministry official confirmed.
The official said Yusuf Hussein Jimale, a political novice who is believed to be a close ally to the president was appointed as the new governor of Banadir regional administration, replacing Mungab.
The reason behind the removal of Mr Mungab from the office is yet unclear.
Unconfirmed reports say the move was followed after a disagreement between Somalia’s internal security minister and the mayor of Mogadishu over the city’s security directives.
