Ten Ministers and Vice Ministers of the Somaliland cabinet of ministers opted out of the administration of His Excellency the President, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Siilaanyo’, following a clear sponsorship and support the President gave the leader of the ruling party, Kulmiye, Musa Behi Abdi, running for the party nomination to candidacy for the Presidency in the 2017 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ministers of the Presidency, Hersi Ali Haj Hassan, the Foreign Ministry, Mohamed Behi Yonis, Public Works, Abdirizak Khalif, Justice, Hussein Ahmed Aideed, Labour, Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir,  and Education, Professor Farah Elmi Geedoole led the stampede.

The Vice Ministers of Labour, Abdiwahid Abdirahman, Resettlement, Nimo Qawdhan, Public Works, Ali Abdi Saa’ik, and Environment, Ahmed Indho Asse, followed the lead.

This move was expected to happen at any day since these ministers along with a dozen more defied the establishment and their party leader to welcome Mohamed Behi Yonis on October 26 at the Egal International Airport openly bucking the President’s express wish not to turn the candidacy for presideny into a fanfare that can potentially turn ugly at any turn of the moment. .

The official spokesperson of the Presidency, Ahmed Suleiman Dhuhul, wears the No. 11 Jersey of resignations.

Some of the resignees did not only leave their jobs but also threw their membership of the Party out of the nearest window.

More from the same flock are expected to follow suit within the coming 24 hours.

This latest spate of undignified exits is neither good for the image of the yet-to-be-recognized republic,  nor for those who tendered them nor for the ruling party.

On the other hand, the President is criticized for openly backing the incumbent Chairman of Kulmiye, Musa Behi, after he declared only a few days ago that he will remain neutral to the contestants and that all aspirants must fairly and freely run at the upcoming Central Committee convention slated for 10 November.

Asked of what he made of this new development, the President revealed that it was no surprise to him and that he would accept many more if so they tendered their intentions, following on the footsteps of those who left the fold.
