Al Shabaab ambushes Somalia, Kenyan military bases in Gedo region

Deaths have been reported after Al Shabaab militants attacked on military bases controlling by Somali government troops backed by Kenyan Defense forces in Gedo region.

The assault erupted on Saturday in Tarako village in Gedo region after Islamist militants armed with rocket propelled and machine guns raided army bases in the area, residents said.

The weapons used by Somalia army, along with Kenyan troops and rebels have left several people including warring sides and civilians dead, a villager said.

Kenyan troops, serving under African Union mission for Somalia (AMISOM) have been battling Al Shabaab in the past 4 years.

Tensions between allied forces (Somalia & Kenya) and Al Shabaab have been running high in the area, according to residents.

Neither one of the officials from Somalia and Kenya nor Al Shabaab insurgents have commented on the clashes so far.
