Accused hacker Lauri Love has been re-arrested “out of the blue” after meeting with Wikileaks. A British man accused of hacking U.S. government computers was rearrested Thursday, shortly after meeting with Wikileaks. British police arrested accused hacker Lauri Love under an arrest warrant issued by U.S. authorities, according to the BBC.According to the public broadcaster, Love will appear in a hearing on September 1. In a short statement on social media, a spokesperson for whistleblower website Wikileaks said Love had been in contact with Julian Assange prior to his arrest.
“Lauri Love, who recently came to see Julian Assange, suddenly re-arrested on U.S. ‘hacking’ extradition warrant,” Wikileaks said. Love was first arrested in 2013 and accused of infiltrating computer systems used by the U.S. army, missile defense and NASA. He has also been accused of being a member of the disparate, loosely organized Anonymous movement.
In 2011, Love played a key role in the student-led occupation of the University of Glasgow’s Hetherington House. The occupation was one of the most prolific events in recent U.K. anti-austerity protests.
Speaking to the BBC, Love’s lawyer Karen Todner said the accused hacker had seen no further legal action since being released on bail in 2013. Todner stated the re-arrest came “out of the blue.”
