The Argentine had been a mainstay of the Liverpool team for three seasons when he was transferred to Barcelona for £17.5m in the summer of 2010.
Since then, Mascherano has enjoyed the success that eluded him at Anfield, winning three La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups and the Champions League twice.

The graceful Spanish pass master left Liverpool in 2009 after five successful seasons that included Champions League success in that unforgettable Istanbul final of 2005.
Joining Real Madrid for around £30m, Alonso added a second Champions League triumph in 2014.

The Spanish right-back moved to Real Madrid a few days before Alonso in 2009, ending a two-and-a-half year spell at Liverpool. He was an unused substitute in Real’s 4-1 win over Atletico Madrid in last year’s final but had featured in four matches during their run.
