At least 20 killed in fighting for south of Somalia

Heavy fighting between Somalia National Army Al Shabab militants has killed at least over 20 government soldiers in Mubarak and Awdhegle villages, 70Km south of Mogadishu.

The fighting erupted after heavily armed Al Shababb militants launched an ambush attack on military bases manned by government soldiers in two towns of lower Shabelle region, witnesses said.

Farah Mohamed, Awdhegle deputy DC for social affairs told Shabelle Media in Mogadishu that deadly battle had taken place in Awdhegle village, adding that he would re-comment on the casualties.

The situation is calm and things have returned back to normal and local residents have reopened their business shops, according to Mr. Farah Mohamed who spoke to Shabelle Media in Mogadishu.

It is not the first that deadly battle broke out between Somalia National Army and Al Shabaab militants in Mubarak and Awdhegle villages, 70Km south of Mogadishu.
