Heavy fighting between Ethiopian forces serving under AU mission for Somalia-AMISOM fought with unknown gunmen in an area sandwiched between Rabdhure and Wajid towns in Bakol region.
The battle erupted after gunmen thought to be Al Shabab militants launched an ambush attack on a convoy with Ethiopian forces, causing unconfirmed casualties.
Both warring sides used heavy and slight weapons during the fighting, a resident told Shabelle Media in Mogadishu by phone on condition of anonymity.
Ethiopian officials did not comment on the battle but reports indicated that Ethiopians travelled from Rabdhure and en-route to Wajid town of southern Somalia’s Bakol region.
No deaths or injuries were reported from the battle. The gunmen were warded off from the area, according to local residents who spoke to Shabelle Media in Mogadishu.
