HOUSTON – A cashier got quite a scare when two men broke into a south Houston gas station and made off with cash from an ATM early Wednesday.

According to the store manager, it happened 4 a.m. at the Exxon gas station located in the 2100 block of Southmore Boulevard near Highway 288.

That is when two men in hoodies smashed through the bottom glass window of the door at the front of store and crawled through.

There was a store clerk in the cooler when the break-in happened and she came out after hearing the glass shatter.

The suspects instructed her to stay back, and then they used a hammer and crowbar to break open the the ATM.

After they pulled out the cash from the machine, the suspects crawled back through the door and fled the scene.

The clerk was not harmed during the incident, which lasted less than five minutes.

Police are now reviewing the store’s surveillance video to see if it helps identify the suspects involved.

The store manager also said that she feels that her store was targeted because it was featured on local TV news as part of a Houston police news conference on store safety and burglaries.
