Gunmen travelling in a vehicle have shot dead a Somali parliamentarian in a drive-by shooting in Mogadishu on Monday, the latest attack targeting the country’s legislative body members.

Witnesses in Hamarjajab district told reporters that suspected militants have sprayed bullets on Abdullahi Qayad’s QAYAAD-1040x440car on his way to the parliament’s today meeting for voting on the newcabinet.

Mr. Qiyad’s murder, the first in this year comes after five lawmakers were killed in attacks, mostly drive-by shootings in the Somali capital last year.

Somali parliamentarians often complain of insecurity in the Somali capital as militants stepped up attacks against them. Al-Shabab which is waging years of insurgency in Somalia has vowed more attacks against the parliamentarians.
