“We have received reports from the Wajid district about the death of six children,” Mohamud Wariye, a Somali government official, told The Anadolu Agency on Thursday.
The Wajid district in Somalia’s Bakool region has been hard-hit by drought since mid-2014.
It is not immediately clear what plans the government has – if any – to send humanitarian assistance to the region.
According to UN figures, famine killed at least 260,000 people in Somalia, half of them children, between 2010 and 2012.
